Why Outsource?

When I was a brand new principal, I read the book The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman.  Groundbreaking in its content, the book shared how companies are built and how they succeed because of the new digital age that offers access to talent from across the globe. For example: After the turn of the century, if you wanted to build a website, there was no longer a need for you tor reach out to a local company to have it done.  Instead, you could connect with someone in Bangor to do it at 1/4 the price.  Examples like these were abundant based on the idea of global outsourcing. Back in 2006, when I read this book, I embraced it fully.  Today . . . not so much.

TAKE ACTION

Just because the talent pool is larger beyond the walls of your school, doesn’t mean the talent you have on campus is insufficient or inferior.  Because of this, why outsource to strangers when there are those in your own family just as capable of designing and implementing next steps to help your school succeed.  Sure, there are many times where outside support and off-site professional development offer tremendous value. (Hopefully I’m a case in point.)  But when it comes to your daily work, BOLD leaders need to develop a culture that cultivates the talent that is staring them right in the face.

BE BOLD
