No Excuses Leadership

No Sweeping on the Job

Are you guilty of sweeping on the job?  You know, the act of avoiding uncomfortable conversations by sweeping them under the rug.  The colleague you turn a blind eye to as he consistently bails out on important meetings after school.  The parent you watch verbally abuse her child over and over again when she thinks nobody is watching. The principal who lacks follow-through after they've made promises to the staff.  Some are major, others minor, but all of them are missed opportunities to display candor.

"Avoidance" isn't in the vocabulary of a BOLD leader.  While we don't need to walk our campuses looking for problems, we better have the resolve to deal with the ones that happen right in front of our faces.

TAKE ACTION

Are you guilty of sweeping on the job?  Maybe it's time you change your mindset.  Author Debrorah Rowland shares of how we need to stop looking at these conversations as a "hurdle" and start viewing them as a "resource".
