Presence Off Campus

When was the last time you crossed the street of your school and walked in to the neighborhoods of your community?  When was the last time you knocked on the doors of individuals who don't have children, but do have a desire to see the success of your school?  When was the last time you entered a local business to invite them to participate in an event that was taking place at your school and in turn offered to help them with a new endeavor that might support their customer base?

Leaders don’t exist just to serve those in their classrooms or office.  There are hundreds of community members outside the walls of your campus in desperate need of bold leadership.  From cohorts of business owners, to neighborhoods of parents, to faith based organizations and non-profit groups seeking to impact the lives of the children you serve, your voice and presence off campus is needed among them.

TAKE ACTION

At least once this year, make plans with your colleagues to be present in your community in a meaningful and powerful way.  Go and thank the local grocery store for offering discounts to your needy families.  Invite your local churches to volunteer as part of a school event.  Encourage the leaders among you to be mentors to students, parents, and teachers.
