Nurture the Neighborhood: The Need Across Our Streets

Social media, the news, and our political representatives often want us to believe that all of our problems are both created and solved hundreds of miles away at the highest levels of our government.  I disagree.  The challenges schools deal with on a daily basis can be addressed when we simply look across the street.  The majority of our students live within our own community.  These neighborhoods adjacent to our schools are ripe for nurturing.

TAKE ACTION

Choose a day for the entire staff to walk the neighborhood(s) of the students you serve. Knock on doors with one intention: To show and tell parents how much you love their kids. Have a list prepared in advance with specific compliments about individual students. Partner with a local bakery and give every parent a cupcake or cookie. Be creative and find a new way to love on your neighborhood. As a Servant Leaders, you'll find it will fill your heart as much as it does theirs. Once you see this, make it an annual event.

BE BOLD
