No Excuses Leadership

Be a Pro Youtuber

In 2007 a father began videotaping two young brothers sitting in a lounge chair in their living room. While filming, he caught the older brother sticking his finger into his baby brother’s mouth only to have it bit.  After posting it on youtube, “Charlie Bit My Finger” would go on to be the most watched (non-music) video with nearly 900 million views. It set in place a revolution where the levity in our lives would be shared in such a way to produce a “viral” reaction.

Think about this for a moment: 300 hours of video content is uploaded on Youtube every minute! If you set out to watch every one of those videos, it would literally take eternity. While much of what’s posted is complete garbage, there are hours upon hours of content that can be used to:

  • inspire your staff
  • make people laugh
  • start a conversation
  • spread the word about a great cause
  • celebrate your achievements as a school family
  • and so much more!

My point . . . in today’s world of free content at your fingertips, if you can’t find something to spark laughter and fun, you’re simply not trying.

TAKE ACTION

If your team struggles with making laughter mandatory, consider starting your next staff meeting with a funny clip from Conan O’Brien or Jimmy Fallon to get their endorphins firing.  If those around you are burnt out, inspire them with a Ted Talk to lighten their load. If you've forgotten who you work for, check out "Kid President" to remind you of the greatness children.   It’s up to you as a leader to read the situation and use the content right at your fingertips.

BE BOLD

"Don't just sit around raising questions and pointing out obstacles.  We've all worked with that person.  That person is a drag."
