Beautiful Attitudes

(The Beatitudes)
Matthew 5:3-9

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

This has always been one of my favorite lessons. I understand that it is difficult to walk a righteous walk in the days that you are living. I have given these to you to help you as you travel on your road in life. Let’s say it is a recipe for “Beautiful Attitudes.” They are called The Beatitudes.
Blessed are the poor in spirit was not meant to imply that you are living without the spirit in your heart. The opposite is true. It means that you know it is My Father God in heaven that supplies you with all you need. When you lean not unto your own earthly understanding, but lean unto Him, you will be a blessed poor spirit, and the promise is the kingdom of heaven.

I don’t want you to think that blessed are they that mourn means you are expected to walk your life road sad. What it means is that you recognize that you have sinned and will continue to sin each day. It is not always the sin that is in question, but your attitude toward your sin. To mourn here means you are sorrowful. The promise for those who mourn is comfort. It is promised that you will find comfort in the forgiveness of your sins.

Blessed are the gentle has somehow made my friends think it means weak. It does not say blessed are the weak, it says blessed are the gentle. I like the earthly saying, “You can catch more flies with honey, than with vinegar.” I was able to feed My Sheep with the love My Father has given to me. To be gentle would require both poor in spirit and mourning. When you realize that God is in control, and when you are sorrowful for your sins, you will be able to show others the mercy that has been given to you. Then you will be gentle. The promise for gentleness is the inheritance of the world. Others will want to stick with the gentle sweet honey spirit, than to sour vinegar.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness means you are looking for the truth in all things. Your hunger and thirst for righteousness will never be a temporary quenching like the earthly hunger and thirst for food and drink. The hunger and thirst that I speak of will continually be quenched by the knowledge of spiritual matters. The promise for those who hunger and thirst for righteousness is they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful is important to me. I have talked many times about loving your enemies and loving your neighbor as yourself. To love those who seem so lovable is easy, to love those who seem unlovable is difficult for you. If you show those who are cross with you mercy, then you yourself are merciful. The promise for the merciful is that they shall receive mercy.

Blessed are the pure at heart means you are honest and do not live as hypocrites. Live as you say you do. I think they say “Practice what you preach.” If you are pure in heart, you will have nothing to hide. You know you can only see God in purity, (Purity in God.) then the promise will be revealed in that you shall see God.

Now that I have explained them to you, let’s take it down one more step. You see, the deeper you go the more simplified it becomes.

Poor in spirit means you recognize that you need God.
To mourn means that you are sorry and repent of your sins.
To be gentle, means that you have adopted an attitude of Godliness.
To hunger and thirst means that you continue to grow.
Mercy means that you recognize forgiveness, and forgive.
Pure in heart means that you keep you eyes on God.
Be poor in spirit, mourn, be gentle, and hunger for righteousness. Be merciful, be pure in heart, and you will be a peacemaker. The blessing for a peacemaker is that you shall be called sons of God.

This is not only a recipe for Beautiful Attitudes, but also essential for salvation. Have you heard of the Roman Road? It is an outline from the Book of Roman’s to help lead others to Salvation. These Beatitudes were central in the message Christ gave during the Sermon on the Mount in the Book of Matthew. It was Christ who was teaching the Roman Road.

Poor in Spirit means salvation.
Mourn means you are sorry for your sins.
Gentle means you have an attitude change.
Hunger means you continue to learn and grow.
Mercy means you show forgiveness, because of the forgiveness you have received.
Pure in heart means you keep your eyes on God.
Apply these six, and you will be a peacemaker.

Just because the sun rises and the moon fades with light.
Does it mean it’s not there? No it’s just out of sight.

Then when the moon rises and the sun dims it’s light, does it mean it’s not there?
No it just said good night.

Like Me little sheep I have not gone far,
Even though you can’t see me, I’m still where you are.
