1. Prayer for Reconstruction of Iraq

We give You thanks, O Lord, that You have caused the light of liberty to shine upon Iraq. Cause the people who sat in deep darkness to see Your great light! We thank You for the anointing resting upon the coalition to remove the yoke of Iraq?s burden from off their shoulders and destroy the rod of the oppressor. You have increased the people?s joy as in harvest, and they have divided the plunder. God of Breakthroughs, You have broken through Your enemies! According to the word You spoke to Moses, by signs, wonders, war, by Your mighty hand, and outstretched arm, and by great terrors, You take a nation from the midst of another nation. According to the deliverance You gave Israel from Egypt we ask for signs and wonders to bring up a new and righteous Iraq where the former oppressed and adversarial one has been.

Cornerstone, You whom the builders rejected, we call upon You for a timely intervention in the affairs of men beginning in Iraq at this hour that You may recover the remnant that You have saved for Yourself. Let the cornerstone of the nation be hewn from the quarry of righteousness. Cause the foundation You have chosen to be laid. Judge, Lawgiver and the King who saves, we ask for the new government of Iraq to be fashioned with pillars of judicial, legislative and executive branches with You at the head. Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, all authority comes from You. Cause this new government to rest on Your shoulders that peace will increase in Iraq and spread to the entire Middle East.

Rise up as at Mount Perazim to do Your awesome work. Bring to pass Your unusual act as when You brought back the Ark of Your Presence to Your people. Raise up and give favor to builders, contractors, entrepreneurs, financiers, teachers, industrialists, technicians, economists, humanitarians, health care and administrative workers that have integrity, godly ideals and right motives. Open doors for Your ambassadors of reconciliation to obtain positions of influence. May they be wise as serpents and gentle as doves. Appoint and anoint builders as You did Bezalel to raise up the tabernacle for Moses in the wilderness. In the manner of Joseph?s wisdom and David whose heart followed after You, as Daniel whose excellent spirit of knowledge, understanding and problem solving brought deliverance to Babylon in his day, cause men to rule over their own spirit and build the old waste places. Raise up the foundations of many generations, and repair the breach of the wickedness of past generations. Restore streets to dwell in, and lift up the tabernacle of David that You may possess the remnant of Iraq and peoples throughout the region that mankind may seek Your Name!

Lord Jesus Christ, loose Your zeal to order and establish leaders in every city and village to lead with judgment and justice. Let them not judge by their eyes or decide by their hearing, but with righteousness cause the new leadership to judge for the poor and decide with equity for the meek. Gird each one with righteousness and faithfulness for the sake of Your purposes. Cause the Spirit of the LORD to rest upon the interim leaders and incoming government that there will be liberty according to Your Word. Give wisdom, understanding, counsel and might; give the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD to reconstruct a nation.

Cornerstone, from which the whole building is fitted together, cause the builders to finish the work that You have begun. Bring the Iraqi people near that those who were not Your people may receive mercy and call You their God. Make peace with them through Your blood, and break down the wall of separation. Let Your cleansing waters overflow every hiding place and sweep away any shelter of lies to prepare Iraq for Your justice as the measuring line and Your righteousness as the plummet for the reconstruction of Iraq?s government and cities. May the scepter of wickedness never again rest on the land of Iraq!

2. A prayer against terrorist activity and dangerous strife within Iraq

O Lord, look down upon our allied troops and fighting forces, upon civic and coalition building partners, upon any remnant of Saddam?s troops, and upon every pocket of resistance and terror. Through a pillar of fire from on high by night and a cloud of Your Presence by day we pray You show Your strength as You did at Jericho and at the Red Sea. Show Yourself and make a clear difference between Your servants and Your enemies. Be deliverance from harm for all who seek the right way; but for Your enemies and all who plot mischief, cause destruction and prevention of every evil scheme. Bring them into submission to righteousness.

Loose angels with swords drawn to guard the borders of the land and prevent the entry of all whose feet run to shed innocent blood and commit further acts of terror against coalition teams and forces. Send division among those who would seek out wicked bonds of brotherhood to commit murder and do harm to coalition forces and agencies. We bind the wild spirit seen by the Angel of the Lord when He met Hagar at the well. We break the brotherhood of strife and stand as watchmen that it be unable to enter or rise up within to cause trouble and oppress the new Iraqi nation. Cause the fear of the Lord to come down upon the land and disable and disperse all terrorist groups in every place. We ask for a divine release of the spirit of peace and cooperation, that wolf and lamb would dwell side by side together in safety, that a new Iraq may rise in peace out of the dust of oppression.

Be to Your servants, our troops and civil agencies, Guide and Shepherd, the Lighted Path. Grant them favor and cooperation by all Iraqi citizens. But to those who plot and do evil, be thick darkness and confusion. Terror of Isaac, disrupt the plans of the evil man, and cause him to be captured or taken away before he can do harm. Stir up the Iraqi people to identify and reject every foreign fighter who has entered the land to shed the blood of the coalition. Stop the words of conspiracy to stir up trouble from within. Cause peace, like a river, to flood the dry places. Anoint the new media to be an instrument of righteousness and influence for well-being and democracy. Bring the wild man into submission, we pray! In Jesus? name we bind the uncontrolled spirit that boils over in rage and accusation while loving a lie.

Keep our loved ones and the innocent from any sudden terror planned by the wicked. O Lord, be confidence to our troops, allies, civic and human services agencies to keep their feet from being caught in any trap or mishap. March out before Your servants who seek to establish and build the nation. O Lord God of Israel, cause Your glory to come from behind every ambassador of Your decree. Be to them a rear guard. For all who fight for freedom and build for peace, bare Your Holy arm in the eyes of the nations so the ends of the earth will see Your salvation for Iraq and its people! Help us, O Lord, to find and capture all terrorists previously sheltered and protected by the regime. May they all be identified, captured and brought to swift justice. Let not our children have to fight these same enemies on another day. Let there be NO hiding place, NO escape. Give us complete and total victory. Hear and answer, O Lord, our Rock and our Redeemer, we pray!

3. Prayer for Citizens of Iraq

O Lord God of mercy and grace, You, Who are longsuffering and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity, transgression and sin, but by no means clearing the guilty, hear our cry for the people of Iraq. Do not hide Your face in this day of trouble. Do not turn Your back when they need You so. Comfort all who mourn and give them beauty for ashes. For the thousands whose family members were taken away, for the millions who have suffered these many years under Saddam?s regime, and for those whose families were injured in the conflict to free them, pour out Your Spirit of grace and supplication.

Consolation of Israel, have mercy on these poor! Fill their broken places with streams of living water. Pour out Your oil and bind up their wounds. Do not allow any new oppressor to dwell in the waste places of former times. Incline Your ear and answer us quickly! See their former oppression and hear our cry. By the rivers of Babylon where they have wept for so long let healing bring the voice of joy once again. Captives who have been plundered, their hearts consumed like smoke, stricken and withered like grass, their days were shadows. But now, Son of Righteousness arise with healing in Your wings! Make the remnant of this people go forth like calves from the stall!

Look down, O Lord, from the height of Your sanctuary in heaven, upon Iraq and her people coming up from bondage. Hear their groaning and release every prisoner of darkness. Release the innocent who have been appointed for death that they may declare the name of the Lord! Forgive those who have hated Your people without a cause. As Israel cried to You in Egypt of old when You heard their voice, You have heard the voice of the Iraqi people who cried out for deliverance. Look with mercy upon their affliction and oppression and bring true freedom.

Arise, O Lord! Have mercy on Iraq. Grant a time of favor for the oppressed ones. Bring them out with a mighty hand and outstretched arm! Show Yourself strong in their midst by great terror, signs, and wonders, that the nations of the earth shall fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth see Your glory. O Lord, build up Iraq, we pray. Appear to her! Regard the prayer of the destitute! Do not despise their prayer! Make Yourself a testimony for the generations to come, so that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord!
