The Rock is blessed to serve along side a dynamic group of gifted leaders. By serving and following God’s will for their lives, our missionaries are able to affect life change for individuals and communities throughout the world. They fulfill the Great Commission outlined in Matthew 28:19 by making disciples of all nations. The Rock supports Manos De Dios missions who reach the lost and hurting in Mexico. They provide native bible translations, children’s programs and many other outreaches that meet the intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of impoverished and lost communities. Puerto Peñasco (“Rocky Point”), Mexico, 60 miles south of Lukeville, Arizona is a growing city on the gulf of California. It has a long history of shrimp fishing and tourism. In the last five years the building of high-rise condominiums, resorts and homes on the beach has increased drastically. The population of Puerto Peñasco is growing as more jobs are created by the building industry and as Mexicans travel north in search of better life for their families. The average wage has increased, but is still at only $10-$15 per DAY! Hundreds of families live on plots of land that are located on the former landfill. This is where they can afford to purchase or “squat” on a small piece of property. They build shelters for their families from materials they can find: cardboard, old siding and doors, recycled metal and tarps. These “homes” barely protect families from the extreme desert heat in the summer and the bone chilling cold of winter nights. Few have electricity and running water. Most walk to work, school and the store. The families and children living in these barrios have captured the hearts of Dennis and Lucy. They felt a call to share the love of God in a tangible way with the people of Mexico. Dennis and Lucy began facilitating the Mexico Mission Life Group at Pantano Christian Church to guide others in serving our brothers and sisters across the border. Dennis and Lucy and the members of this group are active in building homes for families, stocking food banks, serving meals and providing household items. They have come along side five evangelical pastors living and serving in Peñasco. These pastors and their wives are spending their lives serving, supporting and teaching the families of Peñasco. When in Rocky Point on a work trip, these life group volunteers worship on Sundays in one of these churches alongside their Mexican friends.
