PASTOR’S PONDERINGS

“He is Risen.” “He is not here.” “He has been resurrected.” “He is alive.” These are exclamations from the Gospels that embody the greatest event in history. Jesus Christ - who was publicly scourged, nailed to a cross for all to see, whose death was displayed when a Roman soldier thrust a spear in His side, and who was placed in a sealed tomb for three days – this Jesus was alive!

Every promise made in the Bible about eternal life, heaven, was now made sure. During this Resurrection Season do not forget the power of God, displayed in the risen Jesus. No one, ever, in the history of the world has raised himself to life. Jesus did. If He has that power and authority, and if He can give you eternal life, don’t you think you owe Him your love, worship, and allegiance. The empty tomb and risen Savior changed the world!  EVERYTHING. Has He changed you?

I’ll See You Sunday,

Pastor Steve

MEDITATIONS OF THE HEART

Proverbs 18:15 speaks to the benefits of meditating on God’s word.

“The mind of the prudent acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.”

This observation on life penned by King Solomon lays in front of each person who meditates on God’s word the blessing that comes to those who do so.  A person who meditates is described as prudent and wise.  The Hebrew word for prudent describes one who attentively considers what the Bible teaches about God and life.  That one will acquire knowledge which is understood in the Hebrew as discernment, understanding, or wisdom.  What this is saying to followers of Jesus is that when we meditate on God’s word, we will grow in wisdom and the ability to make sense of this crazy world and our lives in it.  Why is it this way?  God’s word is truth for this life, and it blesses us by giving the ability to be the best we can be as followers of Jesus.  Make this your pursuit always!

MUSIC NOTES

Yesterday’s service was a great blessing to me.  I enjoyed hearing the congregation, the choir, Bobby, Sandra, and Barbara as we joined together to worship and praise God together both vocally and instrumentally and to lift up Jesus’ name. I believe that God was blessed by our obedient participation together wholeheartedly as one voice.

Next Sunday morning is Palm Sunday. The choir is going to present the Easter Musical “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” arranged by Russell Mauldin. Bro. Steve is going to narrate, the choir is going to sing, and there will also be several opportunities for the congregation to participate as well. Karen Primm will be singing a solo with the choir about the hands and feet of Jesus. The message and the visuals from the accompaniment DVD will be a heartwarming reminder of the sacrifice of Jesus to atone for my sins and for yours.

Easter is March 31st this year. The choir is going to sing one of the songs from our Easter Musical: “Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery.” The choir and congregation will sing several hymns celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. We will have a couple of instrumental pieces, one of which is entitled “Easter Song.” Tony Tidwell is going to sing a solo. Jackie Hilliary is going to sing “Hallelujah, He is Risen,” and Marianne Biggs is going to sing “Jesus, We Crown You With Praise.” I hope that every one of you that can, will attend, participate, and invite others to come as well. Both services should be a blessing to everyone in attendance. I would like to thank all of you for your encouragement and support!

It Is Finished

There's a line that is drawn through the ages.
On that line stands that old rugged cross.
On that cross a battle is raging.
For the gain of a man's soul or it's loss.

On one side, march the forces of evil,
All the demons and all the devils of hell.
On the other the angels of glory,
And they meet on Golgotha's hill.

The earth shakes with the force of the conflict.
And the sun refuses to shine.
There hangs God's son in the balance.
And then through the darkness he cries

It is finished, the battle is over.
It is finished, there'll be no more war.
It is finished, the end of the conflict.
It is finished, and Jesus is Lord.

Yet in my heart the battle was raging,
Not all prisoners of war have come home
These were battlefields of my own making
I didn't know that the war had been won.

Then I heard that the king of the ages,
Had fought all my battles for me.
And victory, was mine for the claiming.
And now praise His name, I am free.

It is finished, the battle is over.
It is finished, there'll be no more war.
It is finished, the end of the conflict.
It is finished, and Jesus is Lord. (Jesus is Lord) It is finished, and Jesus is Lord.
