And Jesus answered him, saying, "It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." Luke 4:4
These words recorded for us here were an answer to satan from the Lord Jesus as to the challenge to command the stones around Him to become bread in order for the Lord to stave off hunger from forty days of fasting. This is the usual response from the world that mankind has the ability to take care of himself and we should be self-sufficient. Our Lord's response is certainly a precise guide to the believer. Don't allow outside influence to deter you from the very essence of life, which is the Word of God. I am amazed today to see so many seek out pulpits that send forth modern Pop psychology and are strangely silent when it comes to the Word of God. I fear we are feeding on the world's answer to spiritual problems which will not be solved except by attending to the Word of God. Remember self help for the child of God comes from the Word not the world.
