My beautiful, loyal, Belgium Malinois became critically ill from a ruptured spleen due to blood vessel cancer (hemangiosarcoma) and was taken out of his suffering a few days ago..  I have been very sad over this.  He was a good friend and sweet loving pet - loyal to his people family.  He left behind his sister Sasha, who we also own.   It is a terrible thing to witness your pet suffering and waiting in pain to discover the diagnosis.  He stood for most of the time at the vet with his head on my leg as I stroked his head.  Finally, he had to lay down and could not rise again on his own.  He lay waiting for the X-ray after bloodwork and a phone consultation by our vet.  Finally, the x-ray told all.....and it was not good at all.  By this time we were carrying our dog around from X-ray back to the exam room - he was not going to make it.  We laid him on the exam table and the vet  gave him pain meds and something she said would really relax him.  Yes, we are getting ready for the final injection that will euthanize him.  He would be gone then- forever gone.  Well, I just took his head into my hands and face to face I just kept telling him "you're a good boy, Kelly, my good boy Kelly"....he heard, he knew.  I cried.  He blinked.  Tears were something he had never seen on my face - only a smile.  He will always be with us in memory - of the walks he loved, his sweetness, his energy, loyalty, and happiness!  He was also a great guard dog - always on the look out and letting us know if something didn't seem right - he loved his dog job with a gusto that was amazing!  Well, I will sure be missing Kelly Boy for a very long time....and I think it is true that when your pet's time comes and he goes...a part of us goes, too.
