So why don't parents know about this show? Some parents may be unaware what their kids are viewing, or that these kinds of shows are even on. Some parents who recently watched the show were appalled by what they saw and heard. One even said they were surprised that something like that is even on tv. I tend to agree.

You might be thinking, we block MTV, or we dont have cable for that very reason. However most of the shows that we try to ban from our households are available online anytime! DVR's make it possible for students to watch these shows at their friends houses. Kids will find a way to watch shows, and movies, that we are unaware of, or tell them they cant watch. Think back, as kids most of us found ways to watch the shows, the movies, or listen to the music that our parents said no to. I am not condoning their behavior, but trying to help open our eyes, that the problem is there. Kids naturally rebel against what their parents tell them.

So what can we do? One idea is to sit down and watch the shows that your kids are into. Ask questions. What do you think about that? What does God say about it? Listen to some of their music(as painful as that may be) check out lyrics.com, on your computer, and go over the words with them. Again engaging in conversation with them. As a parent and a youth pastor I know how important it is to understand the media that students are exposed to. I encourage you to sit down with your kids, and have a conversation(not a lecture) about what they are viewing. Allow them to dialog with you. You will gain some insight into their world, reveal biblical truth to them, and get to spend time with your kids which is alway needed.

Together, we can help them see the truth behind the lies.
